Claude Cowork

Install the Alation plugin in Claude Cowork and work with your catalog in natural language.

Prerequisites

• Python 3.10+ on the machine running the agent.
• An OAuth client registered on your Alation instance (a one-time, per-instance step).

Install

1. Go to Customize in the sidebar.
2. Click the + next to Personal Plugins and select Add marketplace.
3. Add the marketplace by URL: https://github.com/Alation/alation-plugins
4. Install Alation.

Install from a zip instead

Download alation.zip from the latest release, then Customize → + → Upload plugin and drop in the file.

Authenticate

Ask Cowork to set up the Alation plugin — this runs the setup skill. It prompts for your instance base URL and the Client ID from the OAuth client, then opens a browser to log in.

The redirect page won't load

After you log in, the redirect page stays blank — that’s expected in Cowork. Copy its full URL and paste it back into the chat so Cowork can finish authenticating.

You only register the OAuth client once per instance.
