List of Default Agents

Alation provides out-of-the-box agents for common tasks: searching catalog objects, answering questions from dashboards and data products, generating charts, and more. Each has a sensible default prompt and tool configuration, and all are available via MCP and REST.

Use them as-is, or clone one and adjust its prompt and tools when your use case needs more precision.

The following agents are available out-of-the-box:

  • Analytics Agent - An agent that handles data product search, querying, and charting in an end-to-end flow.
  • Catalog Context Search - Answers complex questions about the Alation data catalog by analyzing the query and forming a multi-step search plan.
  • Catalog Search - A general-purpose agent for searching the Alation catalog.
  • Chart Generation - Chart generation agent using structured configuration approach with custom code fallback for complex visualizations.
  • Curation - An agent for curating catalog objects.
  • Curation Automation - An agent that generates metadata for catalog objects at scale.
  • Dashboard Search - An agent for querying BI reports.
  • Data Marketplace Query - An agent that discovers data products in a marketplace and queries them.
  • Data Product Query - An agent for querying databases associated with data products and generating charts
  • Deep Research - An analytics assistant that decomposes and solves complex research requests
  • Generate PDF from a Chat - An agent that turns a conversation into a downloadable PDF report.
  • Lineage Agent - An agent for answering data lineage questions and creating lineage documentation.
  • Native Data Quality Advisor - An agent that recommends data quality checks and helps author reusable DQ skills.
  • Query - An agent for querying SQL databases
  • Revise Data Product - Improves data product semantic layers by analyzing SQL evaluation results and iteratively refining specifications
  • Signature Generator - An agent that builds optimized signatures for catalog context retrieval.
  • SQL Eval Case Manager - An agent for creating, generating, and auditing SQL evaluation cases for a data product.
